British graphic designer Ruben Ireland uses mixed media with the fusion
of traditional techniques and digital processing to create thoughtful,
dreamlike images that carry emotional weight as well as a relevance to
our daily lives. His tools include ink, acrylic, dirty water, foods,
weathered paper as well as photoshop and a wacom table.
I’ve always considered American Illustration to be one of the nicest annual collections of contemporary illustration. I was honored, and more than a little intimidated, to be asked to work on this year’s packaging, which has in the past featured some of my favorite artists. Rodrigo Corral designed the book and worked on the theme and conceptual direction with me.
